Toward the end of the year 2000, there was a group of Lampang residence who decided that there should be a third Rotary club in Lampang due to geographic reasons. At that time, Mr. Kwanpong Khomson, the assistant of District 3360 Governor Nopadol Ahnonvilas volunteered to oversee the coordination of the new club. The Maewang Rotary club agreed to be their mentor. On January 28, 2001, The forty-five Yonok MBA alumni and students gathered together at the Sabeang restaurant to discuss the club issues. The members consisted of 5 different Yonok MBA Alumni presidents. Those presidents were Mr. Laksana Naparat, Mr. Santi Kheow Urai, Ms.Naiyana Khomson, and Mr. Phanomtian Tohsee. The discussion was unsuccessful due to the lack of readiness on many parties.
In July of 2001, Mr. Pairoj Uerprasert, the 3360 District Governor decided to give the club another try and this time it was a successful one. He received approval from the Assistant District Governor, Anusit Phoovaset who also agreed to be his consultant in this matter. He appointed Mr. Laksana Naparat. former rotarian of the Maewang Rotary club to be the coordinator of the new club.
The Doi Prabaht Rotary Club was established on August 1, 2001 at the Chatkum room, Lampang Asia Hotel. The core leaders for the club are Mr. Laksana Naparat(Charter President), Mr. Phanomtian Tohsee (Charter Secretary), Mr. Anurak Napawan (President Elect), Mr. Boriboon Wachiranuparp, Mr. Santi Kheow-Urai, Ms. Watcharee Panyateeraparp, Mr. Phromdeth Phromchaiwong, Mr. Manit Surin, Mr. Poontawee Kritsadatarn, Mr. Kwanchai Khomson, Ms. Siriwattana Thonglairuam and Ms. Sawart Thakruea.
The Club held their regular meetings weekly and had increased the number of members steadily. The Club received lots of helpful advice and tremendous support from many of its members. Some of those members are Mr. Anusit Phoovaset, the former District Governor, Mr. Chaisin Maneenan and Mr. Chayan Tianpanya, Assistant District Governors, Mr. Kwanpong Khomson and Dr. Nirund Jivasantikarn, chancellor and founder of Yonok College, Lampang. The Club shortly reached its required number of members set in the guidelines of the Rotary International.
The Doi Prabaht Rotary club members are mostly business people with higher education. Many of them graduated from Yonok College which is located on the Doi Prabaht. Therefore, the Club's name reflects the origin of its members. The Club logo was designed by Mr. Pornchai Trakoontiwakorn. The logos used on Club's products and souvenirs are produced and distributed by Mr Anurak Napawan, the club's architect. Mr. Phanomtian Tohsee of the Thainationnews newspaper is in charge of the Club's newsletters and flyers. The Club's information technology system is being managed by Mr. Manit Surin.
The Doi Prabaht Rotary was founded during the era of Richard D. King who is the Rotary International president for 2001-2002. The Club holds its weekly meetings on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. at Lampang Asia Hotel.
